The Importance of Being Still
Anyone have problems with overcommitment? I know I do!
See, I'm a people-pleaser-"yes"-girl...in recovery (I hope).
And in my attempts to burn the candle at every end available, God had to stop me. Truly. Like, put a rock in my way, cut me off, stop me.
It wasn't working.
It wasn't going to work.
So, I had to sit down wit the Lord...be still...and pray over His calling, His purpose for my life. And everything outside of that purpose now, is carefully weighed before going on my schedule. I now have four (4) priorities: 1) My walk with the Lord, 2) my family, 3) the M2M ministry, and 4) my writing...beyond that, anything is prayed over and seriously considered before it makes the calendar. If someone needs a quick answer, my default answer has to be "no".
Because I can't do it all.
You can't do it all.
You weren't meant to do it all.
God doesn't call you to do it all.
He calls us FIRST to a relationship with HIM. Like Mary in Luke 10:38-42...to sit at His feet and take in what He has for us.
Christianity, at its very core, is about that relationship with Him. Not about how many verses you memorized, or your church attendance, or how many ministries you have served in...although these things are important and will come as an overflow of what He is doing in your relationship as fruit.
But our priority, our primary purpose, has to be time with Him - to be poured into and restored.
Now, it's not always easy to make this space...as moms, we need to be strategic about this time. Especially if we have littles...sometimes this being still/pausing with the Lord needs to happen with your little ones. Pray with them, do your devotion time with them, listen to praise music with them...then after they've gone to bed, continue that time with the Lord that you already started.
But, let me leave you with this one last thing from Exodus 14:14...
"The LORD Himself will fight for you, you need only be still."
