Wisdom for the Mess: Death to SuperMom

A Beautiful Mess. Yes, that's a nice summary of motherhood.

Cleaning, scrubbing, feeding, reading, holding, smiling, fussing, crying, laughing, praying, playing--Thank Jesus for bedtime, and then get up to do it all over again, while remembering to shower, shave, keep fit, pack lunches, fix our hair and make up, grocery shop, meal plan, volunteer, plan birthday parties, send thank you notes, Christmas cards, stretch that dollar, and greet our husband at the door with a smile on our face like we got it all together.

Momhood is often overwhelming. Our brains are constantly on the go. At my house supper is often boiling over on the stove as I respond to an email, check homework, and then trip on a toy on my way to greet my husband at the door. I often shrug my shoulders and say "the house was picked up earlier." And it was. Like five minutes ago it was spotless. Ugh. Geez. Why can't I just keep everything in order all of the time, and do everything perfectly? Shrug. Snort. Pout. I can't because I'm not supermom.

I want to take a second and thank our Mentor Mom's for sharing their hearts and Mom Experiences with us at our last MOPS meeting. They helped me see a valuable truth: There AIN'T NO SUCH THING AS SUPERMOM! She died from trying to do it all perfectly all the time.

Let's recap some of the Mom Truths the Mentor Moms shared with us:
1)We need Jesus. He is the one who will give us the strength, energy, willpower, and wisdom to be the Mom's He has called us to be. We need to spend time with Him, even if it's just two minutes a day reading His Word and talking to Him.
2) Prioritize! Nothing waits on you like housework. It's always gonna be there, but you only have so much time with your kids when their little.
3) Forgive! You're gonna make mistakes. Forgive yourself, ask for your kid's forgiveness and learn from that mistake.
